Maria Kalaniemi will release her next album Vilda Rosor "Wild Roses", a collection of Finnish-Swedish songs, in late October, 2010 on Aito Records, Finland. Appearing on the album are guest musicians Olli Varis, Eero Grundström, Pekka Lehti, Arto Järvelä and more.
Tokyo dates moved to September

Due to the Icelandic volcano and the resulting chaos of canceled flights in Europe, the Maria Kalaniemi and Olli Varis concerts in Tokyo on April 24th and 25th have had to be canceled and are now moved to September. The new dates are: Sept 22 - Star Pines Cafe Sept 23 - Musashino Concert Hall
Maria Kalaniemi sheet music book published
May 2009 Maria Kalaniemi's first book of sheet music is published this month as she completes her doctorate work at Sibelius Academy Folk Music department. The 80 page hardback book entitled "Kevään kurjet / Cranes of Spring", includes scores for fourteen pieces from several of her albums plus a new piece "Jusslin" recorded in early 2009. The book also includes a CD of the pieces as well as descriptive / historical notes in Finnish and English and fotos. November 2, 2005 Maria Kalaniemi's solo album, Bellow Poetry, was released this day in Finland on Aito Records. The album features seven new Kalaniemi compositions, one traditional piece and one song by Swedish composer Evert Taube. Olli Varis accompanies with guitar on two pieces while Maria sings on two others. The Finnish release was celebrated with a concert at Sibelius Academy Chamber Music Hall. Bellow Poetry will be released throughout Europe during the coming months including the German release on Intuition January 23. European solo concerts are planned for 2006. September 1, 2005 Recently this year, The Arts Council of Finland appointed Maria Kalaniemi one of four new Artist Professors for a five year term alongside composer Kaija Saariaho, writer Olli Jalonen and artist Juho Karjalainen. This is the second time the Professorship has been awarded to a composer/musician from the folk music field, the first being Heikki Laitinen in the mid 90s. Meanwhile, in Helsinki, the Finnish National Theatre production of “Niskavuoren Nuori Emäntä” featuring new and old Kalaniemi compositions, continues to run. It premiered in December 2004 and continues through November 2005 with a massively successful run of showings.
